It's likely the transmission grinding because the primary clutch isn't disengaging... and continues to turn the transmission... which can't mesh because the input is turning.I have a 2012 825i and experienced most of the clutch problems folks have had. I'd worry about weld distortion and keeping the belt contact surface as designed, but given the price I'd consider giving it a shot.
